Tools Needed:
String line, level, gloves, shovel, wheel barrow, tape measure screed rails & compacting plate.
Installation Instructions:
Step 1 - Prepare the site
Set stake in middle of desired area, attach a 8’ 8” string. Using marking paint, pull string tight and circle the parameter for dig out. Dig out 6” for gravel, sand & stones.
Step 2 - Compact base
Add 3”- 5” of 3/4 minus gravel into dug out area. Using a plate compactor run over the area 3 times. Okay to wet gravel for better compaction.
Step 3 - Screed the sand
Use 1” square tubing (or PVC pipe) and straight 8’ long 2”x 4”, pull sand across to make a smooth surface. When moving screed rails fill voids with sand and hand screed to make smooth.
Step 4 - Find the center
Remove the center stake, and hand float sand to fill in hole then lay 4 center pieces*. Continue: Circle row 1 uses 8 X-small*, Circle row 2 uses 16 small*, Circle row 3 uses 23 single stones*.
Step 5 - Lay circle rows
Continue: Circle row 4 will use 17 large recs*, Circle row 5 will use 21 single stones* & 21 large recs*, Circle row 6 will use 22 single stones* & 8 large recs* & 14 large squares*.
Step 6 - Finish
Circle row 7 will use 24 single stones* & 24 large squares*. Set edge restraint, compact stones, sweep sand into joints, compact stones again and sweep sand again to finish.
